About HandTrendy
What is HandTrendy?
HandTrendy is an independent pattern brand that designs and sells digital crochet and sewing patterns in PDF format. Our catalog includes amigurumi, keychains and bag charms, coasters, appliques, Christmas ornaments and decorations, hats, bags and small sewing projects. Every product on this site is a digital download.
Who designs the patterns?
Each pattern is crocheted or sewn, photographed step by step and written up by the HandTrendy team before it is published. The photos in the pattern show the real sample being made, so you can compare your work at every stage.
Where is HandTrendy based?
HandTrendy is operated by Hobby Trends LLC, registered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. Full contact details are on our Contact page.
Where else can I find HandTrendy patterns?
Besides this website, our patterns are sold on Etsy and a selection is available as Amazon Kindle eBooks. You can find all links on our Shops and Socials page.
Buying and downloading
What exactly will I receive?
You receive a PDF pattern file. No physical item is shipped. Most patterns include written step-by-step instructions, step-by-step photos, an abbreviation list and a link to a video tutorial. The exact page count, photo count and video length are listed in each product description.
How do I download my pattern?
Right after payment, a download button appears on the order confirmation page. You also receive an email with your download link. If you created an account at checkout, you can download your files again from your account at any time.
I did not receive the download email. What should I do?
First check your spam, junk or promotions folder, and make sure the email address you entered at checkout was correct. If you still cannot find it, contact us with your order number and we will send the files again.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery is instant. As soon as your payment is confirmed, the files are ready to download. There are no shipping costs and no waiting time.
Can I download the files on my phone or tablet?
Yes. The PDF opens on phones, tablets and computers. On a phone, the file may open in your browser first; use the share or save option to keep it in your Files app, Books app or Google Drive. A tablet or computer gives the most comfortable reading size.
Can I print the pattern?
Yes. The PDF prints on a home printer on A4 or US Letter paper. If the margins look tight, choose "Fit to page" in your print settings.
Do I need an account to buy?
No. You can check out as a guest. Creating an account simply makes it easier to find and re-download your files later.
Which currency are prices in, and how can I pay?
Prices are in US dollars. The payment methods available for your country are shown at checkout.
Do you offer bundles?
Yes, some patterns are also offered in themed bundles. Bundles are listed in the shop like other products, and the product page shows which patterns each bundle contains.
Skill level and instructions
What skill level do I need?
Every pattern is labeled Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced in its description. Beginner patterns use basic stitches such as chain, single crochet and double crochet. Intermediate patterns add shaping, color changes or joining several pieces.
Are the patterns suitable for complete beginners?
Many are. Choose a pattern labeled Beginner, watch the linked video tutorial alongside the written steps, and follow the photos row by row. Small flat projects such as coasters, appliques and keychains are the easiest place to start.
Which language and crochet terms are used?
Patterns are written in English using US crochet terms. Most patterns include a terminology chart that converts the terms to UK, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese, so you can follow along if you learned crochet in another language.
Are there video tutorials?
Most patterns include a link to a video tutorial that shows each stage. The video length is listed in the product description. The written pattern is complete on its own; the video is there to help with tricky steps.
Is the pattern written row by row or shown as a chart?
Our patterns are written instructions, round by round or row by row, with stitch counts and a photo for most steps.
I am stuck on a step. Can you help?
Yes. Send us a message with the pattern name and the round or step number, ideally with a photo of your work. We reply to every pattern question.
Materials, yarn and size
What materials do I need?
Each product description lists the hook size, yarn type and colors, and any extras such as safety eyes, stuffing, a key ring or buttons. Many of our crochet patterns use a 2 mm hook with a cotton or cotton-acrylic blend yarn, but always check the listing for the specific pattern.
Can I use a different yarn?
Yes. Most patterns include a material guide with alternative yarn suggestions. A thicker yarn with a larger hook gives a bigger finished piece; a thinner yarn gives a smaller one. Keep yarn weight and hook size matched so the stitches stay firm.
How big will the finished item be?
The approximate finished size is listed in each product description, measured with the yarn and hook used in the pattern. Your size may differ slightly depending on your yarn and tension.
Does gauge matter?
For small items such as keychains, coasters and ornaments, gauge is not critical; the piece will simply come out a little larger or smaller. For wearables such as hats, check the size chart in the pattern and adjust your hook if needed.
Are the patterns crochet only?
Most of our patterns are crochet. We also offer sewing patterns and a few no-crochet craft tutorials, such as pom pom and yarn-wrapped decorations. The technique is stated in each listing.
Using the pattern and selling what you make
Can I sell the items I make from your patterns?
Yes. You may sell finished items made from HandTrendy patterns. We kindly ask you to credit HandTrendy as the designer, for example in your listing or on a tag.
Can I share or resell the PDF?
No. The pattern file is for your personal use only. Please do not share, copy, resell or post the PDF or its photos, including in groups or file-sharing sites.
Can I buy a pattern as a gift?
Yes. Complete the purchase with your own email address and forward the download email or the PDF to the person you are gifting it to. Each purchase is for one recipient's personal use.
Can I use your patterns to teach a class or make a video?
Please contact us first and tell us what you have in mind. We are happy to discuss workshops and collaborations.
Returns, problems and updates
Can I get a refund?
Because the files are delivered instantly as digital downloads, we cannot accept returns, exchanges or cancellations once the files have been delivered. If anything is wrong with your file, we will fix it.
What if I find a mistake in a pattern?
Tell us the pattern name and the step. We check it, correct the file and send you the revised version.
The file will not open. What can I do?
Make sure the download finished completely, then open the file with a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, Apple Books or your browser. If it still does not open, contact us and we will send the file again.
I bought the wrong pattern by mistake.
Contact us with your order number as soon as possible and we will look at what we can do.
Will I get updated versions of a pattern?
We improve and correct patterns from time to time. If a pattern you bought has been updated, contact us and we will send you the latest version.
